The inaugural NVLL Spring Classic baseball game presented by Pepsi and All Star Rents was played on April 19th at Thurmon Field at Berhel Park. The game featured a match-up between the Dodgers and Yankees (Majors Division). A crowd of 300 packed Thurmon Field to take in the event played under lights.
NVLL Alum CC Sabathia was hand to attend the event as his New York Yankees were in the Bay Area to play the Oakland A's. CC was able to check out the nightgame set-up (which featured four portable light towers) and spent time visiting with both teams pre-game. CC was introducted to the crowd and tossed out the ceremonial first pitch. This marked the first night game played at the newly renovated baseball field.
The event also featured a special BBQ, live singing of the National Anthem, and player introductions. Tents were set up adjacent to the field that showcased some of CC's memorabilia including a pair of his custom Brand Jordan baseball cleats and the limited edition Nike World Series shoes. The Vallejo High School Baseball Team (CC's alma mater) were also in attendance as well as special guests from area little leagues and NVLL Partners.
This event continues a series of special projects that the NVLL is holding to rebuild Little League baseball in our community. A Summer Classic night game is planned for June. We thank all of those who assisted in making this a great night of baseball in the North!
